Propositions are Hard to Become Free
The proposition is that it is difficult to become free. In his book "Free: The Future of a Radical Price," Chris Anderson discusses a new strategy to generate money from free products. He explains that just as water always flows to the lowest point, the economy also flows towards abundance. This abundance leads to the commodification of all products, where differences in functionality, quality, and brand power among competing products are lost, resulting in lower prices and widespread availability. In order to make profits, companies seek new scarcities. When the cost of abundant goods reaches rock bottom, it can push up the value of other goods adjacent to it. Clayton Christensen, a management expert, refers to this phenomenon as the Law of Attractive Interest Preservation.
Anderson introduces a FREE: New Strategy to Generate Money from Free, which explores how businesses can still make money even when offering products or services for free.
