Recording between project tabs in REAPER You can set rearoute_loopback=1 in your reaper.ini (right under REAPER), and then you will have loopback inputs and outputs which you can use to send between projects. (if you are on Windows, this will mean you lose ReaRoute capability, though, but you probably don't need it). please let me add - any value higher than 1 sets the amount of loopback channels available, so 8 would result in 4 stereo pairs.
In Mac, I made an aggregate device consisting of my Main audio device(Macs Built-in) + Blackhole 2 channel virtual audio device.
In Audio Devices Settings, Input device is set to Blackhole 2 ch and Output device is set to Aggregate Device (Built-in + Blackhole 2 ch)
In the first tab where I make experimentations, the Master Track sends audio ''only'' to the hardware outs 3-4 (Blackhole 2 channel).
In the second tab, I'm just selecting the ''BlackHole 2ch 1-2 '' as a stereo input.
The second tabs Master Track goes to the ''Built-in Output 1-2''
In this scenario, the second tab works as a master mixer and recorder. While I am experimenting with something in the first tab, I like keeping the second tab recording all the time. (But be careful about the storage space.)
Also, if you don't want to ''mute'' the projects while you are moving between tabs, you should also right click on the tab > (check)run background project + (check)run stopped background projects.
