["Snapshot, which has become an important voting tool for DAOs, has raised $4 million. While it has relied on donations from Gitcoin in the past, this marks its first fundraising round. Investors include 1kx, The LAO, MetaCartel Ventures, The Wisdom of Crowds (Kadokawa EPUB Selection) | James Surowiecki, Naoko Kodaka | Book | Mail order | Amazon, StarkWare, Coinbase Ventures, BoostVC, Scalar Capital, Fire Eyes DAO, LongHash Ventures, and Coopérative Kleros.]
["Snapshot was started as a side project by someone who worked at Balancer. After open-sourcing the initial version, it was quickly adopted by projects like Yam and Yearn, and now has over 2,000 communities using it, including Aave, Report by government agencies on crypto, and Sushi.]
Backend Usage
Snapshot's code has been forked multiple times and is increasingly being used as a backend by other projects, which the founders encourage.
For example, during last week's ENS airdrop, Snapshot was used to require users to vote on the ENS constitution before receiving their airdrop.
Going forward, Snapshot plans to make it easier to integrate into DAO development kits like DeepDAO and Boardroom, scale to handle more users, and potentially introduce its own token, although that is not currently a high priority.
