Max Weber (1864–1920) was a German sociologist and political economist , widely regarded as one of the founding figures of modern sociology . He introduced the concept of interpretive sociology , which emphasizes understanding the subjective meanings individuals attach to their actions. Rather than viewing society solely as a collection of structures or institutions, Weber sought to explain why people behave the way they do based on their internal motivations, beliefs, and values.One of his most influential works, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit ofCapitalism , argues that the rise of modern capitalism inWestern Europe was deeply connected to the religious beliefs of Protestantism , particularly Calvinism.
