Dr. Ryuta Kuwamizu specializes in exploring the relationship between physical activity behavior and enhancing cognitive and conative function in humans. His expertise spans various domains, including exercise physiology, imaging neuroscience, oculometric studies, and developmental science.Kuwamizu's doctoral research, where he trained under Dr. Hideaki Soya, shed light on how very light-intensity exercise positively impacts prefrontal function. His work centers on investigating brainstem-derived monoaminergic arousal systems and their correlation with physical activity, specifically examining the intricate connections between exercise and neural circuits governing pupil and blink dynamics (e.g., NeuroImage, 2023; Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 2021; The journal of physiological sciences, 2022). These insights offer promising avenues for optimizing brain function through physical exercise. He accepted a JSPS fellowship post-doctoral position in the brain developmental lab at Kyoto University where he was trainning under Dr. Yusuke Moriguchi in studies investigating the biopsychological mechanisms of child brain and cognitive development. He then returned to the University of Tsukuba as an assistant professor in the spring of 2024.
