エリン・サリヴァン: 写真を撮る瞬間はあなたから体験を奪うのか?
Summary:
The main theme of this TED Talk is about the amazingness of taking pictures in the first place and the importance of experiences without cameras or phones themselves. The speaker is a professional photographer and she tells the audience how we should deal with taking pictures in our lives. According to a researchers team in USC who studies for photo-taking's effect on enjoyment levels, it turned out that only when people take pictures intentionally the enjoyment levels increased. So she claims that the intention is the key to enhance our experiences. And then she continues that if we can't take photos intentionally it's good opportunities to put your camera away. But she also adds that she doesn't want to discourage people from taking photos. Finally she advises that when you are eager to take out your camera or phone you should just stop and take a deep breath. In conclusion, she claims that you can use cameras to enhance your experiences but you should remember the importance of focusing on the experiences themselves.
Impression:
I often take pictures in my daily life so this TED Talk is interesting for me. I remember that I sometimes take pictures just for sharing them online. But I also remember that this would happen only when I use a smartphone, not a camera. I guess the main reason of it is that smartphones don't have a finder like cameras so it's a little bit difficult to focus on the subject and the atmosphere around it. To take pictures with cameras we somehow need to pay attention to others including the subject and observe it carefully. So I can understand the importance of intentionality the speaker says. Nowadays I rarely use cameras but it's good opportunity to take out my cameras and try to enhance my experiences.
