フェナキストスコープ（phenakistoscope）（phénakisticope／phenakistiscope などの綴りもある）は、なめらかな動きの錯覚を生み出した、最初期に広く普及したアニメーション装置である。

発明者たちはこれを ファンタスコープ（Fantascope） や ストロボスコープ式円盤（Stroboscopische Scheiben／「ストロボスコピック・ディスク」） と呼んでいたが、のちにフランスでの商品名 Phénakisticope（表記の揺れを含む）が一般的になった。

フェナキストスコープは、映画や映像産業へとつながる「動く映像メディア娯楽」の最初期の形態の一つと見なされている。

また、GIFアニメーションと同様に、短い動きのループしか表示できないという特徴を持っている。

The phenakistoscope (also known by the spellings phénakisticope or phenakistiscope) was the first widespread animation device that created a fluid illusion of motion. Dubbed Fantascope and Stroboscopische Scheiben ('stroboscopic discs') by its inventors, it has been known under many other names until the French product name Phénakisticope became common (with alternative spellings). The phenakistiscope is regarded as one of the first forms of moving media entertainment that paved the way for the future motion picture and film industry. Similar to a GIF animation, it can only show a short continuous loop.
