I. Mountain and Trail Conditions:
a. The first part of day 1 is a trek along an open and exposed, established trail surrounded by farm lands.
b. The second part of day 1 is a steep ascent through the forest. This may be quite challenging and will require you to grab on branches and roots. Gloves are advised.
c. Day 2 will be more exciting as you pass by the boulder face of Mt. Apo until you reach the summit. Face mask is highly advised due to the sulfur vents on some parts.
d. The trails may get very muddy especially if it rains.
e. You will be camping at lake venado.
f. Though it does not get extremely cold please still prepare for temperatures that may drop to less than 5 degrees Celsius.
g. There are water sources near the campsite but if you are unsure about it better bring a filter, purifying tablets or your own water.
i. There are cell phone signal in most parts of the trails.
II Things to bring:
a. Clothes for the trip.
b. Jackets- We suggest 2 jackets, a fleece jacket, and a waterproof jacket.
c. Rain, Sun and Cold Protection (Sun Block, Cap, Shades, gloves, scarfs, bonnet etc.)
d. Head Lamps and extra batteries
h. Toiletries (tissue, toothbrush, towel etc.)
i. Slippers
j. Personal Medicine
k. Camera
l. Trekking pole (optional but recommended)
m. Water containers (e.g. Nalgene) or 1 to 2 liters of water to be brought during the hike proper.
n. Other hydration fluids like Gatorade (Optional)
o. Trail food (food high in energy/sugar like trail mix, jello, nuts, candies/chocolates, dried fruits)
p. Daypack for the essentials on the summit assault hike. Leave the rest of your things in the tent.
q. Face masks against sulfur
r. Sleeping bag, matt and tent
s. Ear plugs
III. Reminders and Tips:
a. Please be in proper attire. For footwear; no slippers, chucks, sneakers. No jeans as well. Try to avoid short-sleeved shirts.
b. Trekking pole will be very helpful. Remember your face mask as protection from sulfur vents.
c. Bring 2 set of gloves with you. One for grabbing on branches and roots as you climb the other for the cold.
d. Waterproof your things well especially your valuables by putting them in layers of plastic. '
e. Prepare accordingly especially for the cold. The campsite, though inside a forest, tends to be really cold.
