土の幻影

本作は、土を最古のメディアとして捉え、古来の人が絵や記号と出会うに至った状況を体験するインスタレーション。土が松明のような光に照らされた時に生まれる豊かな陰影を写真に納め、写真の状況と同じ光の中で展示している。それにより、まるで写真が目の前に立ち上がるよう錯覚をを作り出すことができる。なにの意味にも染められない陰影を目の前に、何を読み取るのかを考える。

This work is an installation in which the artist considers soil as the oldest medium and experiences the situation that led to the encounter of ancient people with pictures and symbols. The rich shadows created when the soil is illuminated by torch-like light are captured in photographs and displayed in the same light as the photographic situation. This creates the illusion that the photograph is standing right in front of the viewer's eyes. The viewer is asked to consider what he or she is reading when confronted with shadows that are not tinted with any meaning.
