School of Architecture, The University of Utah
DesignBuildUTAH, Architectural hand-on designbuild educational program
Atsushi was born in Japan and received his degree in Materials and Science Engineering from Waseda University in Japan. While in school, he studied the characteristics of metal materials using computers and gained a deep understanding of their properties. Seeking to apply this knowledge in a more tangible way, Atsushi decided to study architecture at the University of Utah in the United States.
During his time in school, Atsushi participated in the DesignBuildBLUFF program, where he enjoyed learning through hands-on experience and building projects. After graduation, he became a staff member of DesignBuildBLUFF and has been working to improve the program and its impact on the local community. He became a university employee when the DesignBuildBLUFF program was taken over by the University of Utah.
As an employee of the University of Utah, Atsushi has overseen a number of residential projects and local art installations that utilize local natural sand and clay materials as finishes for interior and exterior architectural elements. He is passionate about sharing the beauty of these materials with students and helping to create sustainable and aesthetically pleasing designs.
Atsushi is currently focused on using digital technologies, such as 3D printer, AR, VR, and MR, to connect with and engage the local community.
