Crooked fences
When our family came to this farm nearly half a century ago, Dad's rule of thumb was that if you didn't feel comfortable driving on an area because of steepness, it should be abandoned as field. That means it should be forest, or orchard, or vineyard—something that doesn't require hay mowers, manure spreaders, and hay wagons. As soon as you look at a farm from that perspective, you begin making crooked fences.
