Flaring
A well can produce both oil and natural gas, but oil gets far higher prices. Flaring is an inexpensive way of getting rid of Natural Gas by burning it off. The practice produces dramatic flares and attracts criticism, which the industry sees as a huge threat to its efforts to portray natural gas as a cleaner and more climate-friendly energy source.
By flaring off natural gas, rather than capturing it for use, companies are creating pollution without creating usable energy.
