Edward Taub researched how the brain changes when we learn new things. In one study, he looked at violin players. Since violinists use their left hand to do complicated things on the strings, they have to practice a lot. Taub found out that the more they practiced, the larger the area in their brain (that controls the left hand) became. This shows that our brains can change and adapt when we learn and practice new skills. This is called "brain plasticity." In another example, studies have shown that good cab drivers, for example, have a larger hippocampus, an area of the brain related to memory, than the average person.
