How to make wood charcoal - Drum can method
In many countries, it is easy to get a drum can.
It is possible to set up the drum beside the needed materials in the field.
A. Start fire at the burning place
B. White smoke – moisture in the wood
C. Stimulative grayish white smoke and smell of wood vinegar
– Hemicellulose and cellulose are burning
– Carbonization starts
D. Remove firewood from the burning place
E. Close the entrance
(80~90%, Temperature of the entrance of chimney is about 82 centigrade.)
F. Stimulative brownish white smoke – Start to collect wood vinegar (90~100 centigrade)
G. Pale smoke – Stop collecting wood vinegar (170 centigrade)
H. Control temperature around 270 centigrade.
I. Colorless smoke: Close entrance completely (250~270 centigrade)
After 10 minutes close the entrance of chimney completely
J. It takes 11 hours to make charcoal
K. 15kg of charcoal and 5 liters of wood vinegar are produced by one drum can

How to make wood charcoal - Fuseyaki method
“Fuseyaki” is Japanese word. Fuse means turning down or laying things. Yaki means burning. It is very simple and low cost. And it is not necessary to carry materials to the kiln. We can set up any place in the field. Furthermore used soil is very useful to grow seedlings of vegetables. This soil is disinfected and contains ash (minerals) and small pieces of charcoal.
