観光客の民主主義は可能か
Is democratic tourism possible?
In the past, democracy has been tied to land and fixed members. This is true for both Ancient Greece and modern nation-states. However, Hiroki Azuma welcomes the concept of "tourists" in his Philosophy of tourists. The concept of "tourists" is not completely unrelated to a specific land, but it also does not fully commit to it. It can be seen as a somewhat ambiguous position. Shigeki Uno points out in What is Conservatism? that "Conservatives value intimate and closed communities, while liberals value universal solidarity that goes beyond them." Karl Popper, who advocates for an Open Society, criticizes Plato's Nation as "tribalistic" and "closed". However, Plato himself suggests the dismantling of families and the sharing of children within the state, which can be seen as Family Deniers. Nevertheless, Popper still sees it as tribalistic and familial. In the concept of Universalistic Tribalism, many people value emotional connections that stem from abstract ideas, as well as loyalty and sincerity towards the unique values of each culture. It is called conservative to prioritize these aspects. On the other hand, Liberalism prioritizes the empathy towards universal ideas. This sometimes leads to a very arrogant and closed attitude of "this is the right idea, so everyone should naturally agree." It creates a paradox, giving rise to Universalistic Tribalism. Karl Popper's criticism of Plato can be understood in this regard. It's like saying, "Isn't it a Liberal village?" as a critique. In Liberalism focuses on "How Classics are Opened", the discussion shifts to the concept of "children" from the concept of family. It is the concept that should be reconstructed along with the family. When a person is born, they have relationships with their parents and various other people. They cannot choose these relationships. In that sense, everyone is conservative because they have to start from that fact. On the other hand, it can also be said to be liberal if you focus on the "openness" that comes with it. It is a recursive conservatism.
