Why Does Government Exist?
Why does government exist?
Borrowing the words of Social contract theory, government exists to eliminate the Struggle of all against all.
According to Common Sense, society is born out of our needs, and government is born out of our vices. The former actively promotes happiness by uniting our affections, while the latter passively promotes happiness by restraining our bad actions. One advances social interaction, while the other imposes discrimination. Society acts as a protector, while government acts as a punisher.
While society is something to be celebrated in any state, government is nothing more than a necessary evil, even in the best of circumstances. Therefore, in its worst state, it becomes unbearable.
When considering how to govern on the internet (Governance technology), I have often thought about the following:
- A system in which citizens directly check the exercise of power and guarantee "good governance" vTaiwan
- Shareholders' meeting When a corporation becomes a DAO, how is it governed?
- Governance Techniques of DAO DAO Voting
- Create a Small Country on the Internet?
To explore societies with and without government, refer to Society Resisting the State.
