Renaissance
2023/3/22
In the 15th century, the Italian Renaissance emerged as a movement that broke away from the worldview of Christianity. It first took place in Italy, particularly in the field of art and painting. Florence played a central role in this movement.
The history of the Italian Renaissance is characterized by figures such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael, who emerged in the later period. As I am currently on the Europe Wander 2023 Spring, I decided to purchase the book 'Leonardo da Vinci - Volume 1 (Bunshun Bunko)' to learn more about it. I am also looking forward to the Introduction to Paris on 2023/3/22.
During the Plague pandemic, which occurred at that time, approximately 60% of the European population lost their lives. This devastating event is symbolized by the Victory of Death, which can be seen in the painting https://gyazo.com/39e746be8a93f47f70df8efa62f08da3. Another motif that emerged after the plague was the Dance of Death, where skeletons are depicted dancing with clergy and kings. However, in the Italian region, there were darker and more gruesome paintings that depicted skeletons, such as the Victory of Death, defeating people from all social classes.
For further insights into the impact of pandemics on history, I recommend reading [The Future Revealed by the History of Pandemics vol.2 - THINK ABOUT - Touching Knowledge, Opening the Future].
